From EGL: New Year's Fashion Review and Future Predictions

 It feels like a while since I've done something Lolita related on my blog, so I shamelessly copied and pasted this from EGL.

End of 2015 Questions:

1. Favorite look of 2015
 I don't think I've photographed many of my looks from this year, to be honest. Mostly I've worn my Three Archangels OP from Innocent World in many different ways, so it probably has to be a coord with that particular dress.

2. Least favorite look of 2015
 I love all my dresses, however I'm not too sure I'm into Sweet Lolita as much nowadays, even if little girls do call me a princess. I do love this Baby dress, don't get me wrong, but I'm not so sure that the shirring suits me.

 I think I was going for an old school look here.

I'm also not too keen on the colour and textures going on here.

 3. Favorite purchase
 Definitely my Archangels OP from Innocent World! I wear it so much and it's so comfortable that I can just wear it around the house. It's also very versatile for an OP.

 4. Least favorite purchase

 I didn't buy it this year, but I'm not too fond of my Whip Showcase JSK from Angelic Pretty. I haven't worn it yet because it doesn't fit! I need it altered, and maybe then I'll love it more. Shown as part of an outfit here.

5. An item you wished you purchased but didn’t.
 I really coveted the Antique Cutlery JSK from Innocent World in the brown colourway, and was about to order it for my prom before it was sold out! Luckily I found my dream dress that I liked even more than that (Three Archangels of course).

6. Trends you liked and didn’t like from 2015
 I know I'd never have a place to wear it, but I really liked the OTT Classic Lolita trends of 2015; they remind me of balls and fairy princesses! I'm not too sure about trends I don't like this year, however OTT Sweet Lolita with the split-colour wigs are one of my dislikes.

 7. Favorite release of 2015

 It's certainly a late release, but I really love the Cherub Angel Candlestick Ribbon JSK from Innocent World. I'm so glad I ordered it, even if the custom taxes hit me hard (80 pounds!!!). I'm also a big fan of the Old School re-releases that Baby did earlier this year.
 

8. What were your fashion goals of 2015? Did you achieve them?
 My main goal was to wear Lolita whenever possible, especially at college, and I have achieved that goal. My classmates seem to find it very cute, and I even met a girl that ran a Lolita blog on Tumblr (even though she doesn't wear Lolita herself, I think).

New Year 2016 questions

9. Predict the new trends for 2016
 I have no idea really, but I hope Gothic and Old School styles are popular next year. I need more Gothic in my life. Perhaps OTT Gothic and EGA will emerge again? After all, we've already had OTT Classic and Sweet.
I also hope for... Medieval Lolita! Sounds weird, but I want the rich jewel colours and goriness to come to Lolita.

10. 2016 releases you are excited for
It's not really a Lolita release as such, but a collaboration that Baby is doing with Pullip and something called Petit Prince is rather exciting for me. I love this doll!

11. Fashion goals for 2016

• Incorporate more colours into my Lolita wardrobe, rather than just pink. I'm looking at colours like navy and dark forest green, as well as white and black for next year.  
• Wear Lolita as often as I can (this week I wore it three days in a row).
• Accessorize more, use more unusual accessories like bonnets, and wear jewellery.
• Do some more things with my hair, instead of having it just down or in a ponytail. I'll need my hair to grow more for this, though.

Seeing as Poupee is closing soon, I may as well post my vintage and Lolita clothes here instead. Although there is a petition out there that I signed to keep the website up, I doubt it will do much good - Japanese companies are often very strict in what they decide on.

Out of my birthday money I bought myself a mannequin, both for dress-making and displaying my lolita clothes! It's actually a really good way to add decoration to a room!

Elizabeth Rose Design

I've just been sooo busy at school and had no time to draw recently! This picture is a fashion design I made for Textiles at school, where the theme is "Japanese Street Style". Naturally I chose lolita!

These clothes and accessories are part of my "Elizabeth Rose" series, which contains a hard Victorian bonnet, a small velveteen cape, and a skirt.

Inspiration is placed around the Queen of England, as research tells me that British things are a source of inspiration for Lolita designers in Japan.

My colour scheme is grey and white, monotone colours, to create more of a mature, sophisticated side to a fun and alternative, upbeat fashion. Also, it represents the colours of diamonds bathed in light, seeing as the Diamond Jubilee was not so long ago. The decoration is mainly sparse, for elegance and simplicity.

I've already made the bonnet and am going to make the skirt for my GCSEs. I went easy on the frills, because, well, school... 

The rose fabric I manipulated onto the skirt belongs to IKEA, as I did not draw it. And the croquis base is by Azute Thank you!

Today I'm going to try my best to write a lot of Margaret's School, and then maybe later I'll colour some more of my latest picture; it's for Aika's birthday on the 26th May! With the exams from school finally over, I'm hoping that they'll go easy on us with the homework situation... So maybe I'll finish the picture before the 26th.

My Nana and I have been playing tennis in the garden as it's a really beautiful day. Between the two of us, we're really rubbish at playing tennis, and Cleo kept on running after the ball and hiding it in the bushes where we can't get to it! It was really fun.



Why I love Sailor Lolita Fashion

Sailor Lolita has to be one of my favourite sub-styles of Lolita. It can be classic-inspired, or sweet inspired, but is typically in sax or navy blue with a sailor collar, stripes along the hem, and capped sleeves. Sailor style usually comes out around late spring-summer time, and Metamorphose temps de fille release a lot, and sometimes Baby and Angelic Pretty, too. Sadly I don't own many at the moment (I have a Hell Bunny sailor OP that I love, but it sometimes gets overlooked when I go to my closet. Going to wear it soon!), but I post these for inspiration for one day where I finally get good at sewing, or sudden become un-bankrupted.

Usually I don't wear so much Lolita clothes, because a) Indy's and Cleo's paws are almost always muddy, and b) I still need to lose a little more weight for my other JSKs. I used to wear Lolita every weekend when I went to school full-time to have a break from my really unattractive, bottle green uniform, and now I'm well enough to go to school full time again, I'm getting back into that tradition. Also, when I feel ill I don't really want to wear Lolita in case I get it dirty fainting or having a seizure, but now there's no risk of that at the moment, I want to make the most of it!

I'm wearing a lot of BtSSB today! It must be my favourite Lolita brand by far... Also, I took some quick photos of details in my Lovely Sweet Room JSK for inspiration of my next artwork. I just love all the details in BtSSB dresses, and the poodles are so adorable! I wonder if someday there will be a print with cocker spaniels on? It would be at the top of my dream dress list, if so!

I just adore this JSK! It's simple, really versatile, and has beautiful details in the back with a bustle-like effect. I think it has to be my favourite Lolita dress by far!

I wore this outfit for about 20 minutes before I had to get changed into old clothes, as I remembered that I had a lot of art homework to do for upcoming exams!

Why I love Lolita Fashion

   I think it's obvious by now that I adore Lolita fashion. Whilst it has it's downsides, like the tiny sizes and ridiculously expensive prices, there are a lot of things I love about the fashion:

 1. The amazing designs that are inspired by certain periods of history; I love the Victorian and Rococo inspired dresses, and have a soft spot for the retro 50s-ish designs.

2. Each print tells a story. Sometimes it's Alice in Wonderland, sometimes Romeo and Juliet, and others it can be anything from Dracula to Cinderella. Every dress is so different and unique, and I could spend a long time looking at all the beautiful details and find something new each time!



3. Despite the confusion with the book, Lolita, the fashion is very modest and innocent, with a doll or child-like appearance. Whilst wearing the fashion, you don't feel caught up in the need to grow up, move out, and get a job. You can just be yourself and stay in the moment. The fashion is all about what appeals to you, and not what anybody else thinks.

If I ever find enough money in the future, I'd love to hunt down some of these Lolita dresses. Most of them are from 2010 - my first year of high school - when I spent most of my time drooling over the Lolita fashion websites. Jump break, because it's a really long post, ahaha.

Well, I'm back on PoupeeGirl after talking with a friend on DeviantArt! The last time I played properly was a couple of years back when I had lots of time for computer games. At that time, I didn't really have many clothes that I liked to wear, in the fashion I love (lolita, duh XD), but now I've got an iPhone that can take good-ish photos, and a small collection of lolita clothes, I actually quite enjoy it. =)

It was surprisingly warm and mild today with really sunny weather! I wore my hair natural and had no makeup because it takes too long and I wanted to draw.

Seasonal Lolita Survival Guide

For all you Lolitas out there, dressing comfortably in all seasons and weathers can be rather stressful, right? You're not alone! I find that Summer and Winter can be the worst. To be honest, it gets to the point that I'm so uncomfortable that I put off wearing lolita until cooler weather in Spring and Autumn. Well, here's a guide for each season to make things easier!

Spring

 

• Spring is a nice season~ All those cute lambs, bunnies and chicks are born and the trees start getting leaves again. Not only that, but yay! - no more Winter! No more trekking to school in the snow and certainly no slipping on ice! 
• As the weather can be unpredictable, it's best to buy/wear both long-sleeved and short-sleeved blouses in colours to compliment your wardrobe. That way, when it's hot, you can stay cool - and when it's very chilly, you can wear long sleeves to keep yourself cozy. 
• A good alternative would be a cut-sew with detachable sleeves like the cute ones you can get from Baby and Angelic Pretty.
• As it's not too hot, you can wear JSKs over your blouses. Spring is very good for JSKs with cute, pastel-y Easter prints such as Happy Garden. Not only that, but isn't that when the solid colour dresses come out? 
• An alternative to JSK-over-blouse mode would be to invest in a cute cardigan or bolero in pastel colours (if you're a sweet lolita), black (gothic lolita) or whatever colour you fancy. I have a really cute velvet jacket I picked up from Pop Boutique that's black with puffy capped sleeves and a pink floral pattern. It's very 50s-ish and I think it would go nicely with a lolita co-ord in spring if I don't feel like wearing a blouse.
• I think florals look very cute in Spring. It reminds me a lot of Black Butler and this one time I bought really cute fabric from Joanne's in Florida. 

 Summer

 

• Summer is lovely - but it can be difficult to wear lolita during the months May until August, early September. Despite being my favourite season, even I can admit it's uncomfortably hot and sticky to wear your finest clothes during it. 
• To keep cool- forget about JSKs and blouses! Well, you don't have to... I just think it's easier. Wear one pieces to keep cool and look cute. I especially like those with sailor collars or rounded collars - they look so cute and dolly-like! 
• Wear a toned down petticoat. If you really insist on wearing a full-blown fluffy petticoat, then only opt for one. I hear of girls that wear many and I just think 'HOW?!' It makes me way too bulky looking if I wear more than one. XD
• Underneath your skirts/dresses wear some secret cycling shorts or cropped leggings. Nobody will notice and it will, *ahem* make yourself more comfortable when it gets unbearably hot. 
• Always wear suncream!
• Carry around water if you're going places. It's good to keep hydrated and healthy. 
• Don't bother with wigs if you're the type that wears them! You'll be way, way too hot! D:
• Parasols are great in sunny weather. It's like a portable shade.
• Short socks are your savoir! Wear those that are topped with cute lace. That way, you can pair them with your every day wear and even school uniform if you're lucky! 
• Sailor lolita and sweet lolita prints with berries and icecream sundaes scream summer to me. I can't stop drooling over them. XD If only I had enough money.
• In fact, to keep cool, why not wear a cute off-brand blouse with short sleeves? If it were me, I wouldn't want to sweat all over my brand items, so something cute and versatile would work in this case. There are some lolita-able blouses on the market, you just have to shop around and even try vintage stores. 
• Momoko off Kamikaze Girls would probably use a lacy, Marie Antoinette styled fan during summer to keep herself cool. 
• Some nice head-wear for summer would be a rimmed straw hat with berries and a ribbon on, that, or if you love bonnets, maybe a straw, half-bonnet? To keep things nice and simple, how about two small bows either side of your head. 
• Wear your hair in simple, easy to style hairstyles like plaits and bunches that you can fix up easily in the morning. In fact, I love this hairstyle. It's easy to follow and doesn't take that long at all! As a bonus, it reminds me of Minnie Mouse! :) 

Autumn

• Autumn is kind of like Spring in terms of comfort, so I don't need to write much here. 
• This is where you are more likely to need long sleeves once again. I'd say, get two good long-sleeved blouses for your wardrobe. 
• Here, you may need a light coat/jacket depending on how cold it gets where you live. I think a capelet would look really cute if coordinated in the right way! I especially love those in faux fawn fur that you can get from Innocent World or Baby. 
• For a colour scheme, I think browns and creams look really nice in Autumn. It reminds me of the falling leaves and chai latte. 
• Get some cute ankle boots in a colour to suit your style.

Winter

• Aarg! It's winter - my least favourite season. The only thing i like about it is December when it gets Christmas-y. After that, or even before that in November, I can't stop dreaming of being on some tropical island (Animal Crossing, this is when I need you most of all!). 
• I was once out walking with my Dad in January/February time. For some stupid reason I thought the weather was getting warmer and only wore a longs-sleeved blouse, petticoat, JSK and my typical winter coat with socks and boots. Let me tell you this, I FROZE to death! My legs were so numb that I couldn't feel them when I got back inside. 
• So, wear as many layers as you can without looking like the abominable snowman! Layer those petticoats if you can, and always, always wear long sleeves! 
• You will definitely need a coat - no excuses. Get one that can match all your clothes. If you're a sweet lolita, I'm guessing you have a lot of pink. Get a pink coat. If you're a gothic lolita, it's a no-brainer, you'll most likely want a black one. For the classic lolitas out there, I recommend either a brown, white or black, neutral-coloured coat that will match for lots of coordinates.  
• Boots and long socks are your best friends. No more Mary Janes or rocking horses here. 
• Woolen berets, mufflers, fluffy fur collars and loli-able mittens/scarfs/gloves will all be really cute accessories to keep you warm and look adorable. 
• If you're the kind to wear bloomers, I won't blame you in this season. If you wear wigs (again, optional for the lolita gal) this is the season where you'll be thankful you wore one.

What I've been doing at school recently

During my school's lunch times I've been working on a Fashion project in the Art rooms instead of going to school after lunch. It's so much fun, and all thanks to my Art teacher! I'm so grateful she lets me sit in her form room during lunch times; both because I prefer to get on with work, and also because my own form room can be very scary at times! I'm going to be so sad when Mrs Dewhurst retires this summer. :( She was one of my favourite teachers in my school. Next year we're getting a new *male* teacher in our *all-girl* school. I hope he's nice. :) Hopefully I can do the same next year's lunchtimes.

Anyway, I was strongly inspired by 50s clothes as well as sweet lolita and sailor-inspired fashion. I wish I had all the clothes in these pictures!

Why I love Fairy Kei!

 

   Most of this year I've been drooling over some amazing new fashion styles on Tumblr, including fairy-kei and pastel-goth. Because unfortunately lolita style (with an exception of casual loli) isn't exactly practical for an everyday basis!  I think that fairy-kei could be like a toned down/ poofed-down version of sweet lolita. It's got all the sweet and innocent motifs like candy, cakes and teddy bears... Also you could wear those head-eating hair bows and still call it fairy kei!

I love the cute 80s vibe, and all the amazing, vivid colours they use in designing! The sweet motifs they use on knitted jumpers and T-shirts are just so adorable, and the coloured hair is all good too!

Fairy-kei girls wear lots and lots of badges (remember all those 'I ♥ Spank!' pins that float around all over kawaii Tumblr blogs?) and layering of clothes is also fashionable.

Colours most commonly used are; all kinds of pastels, hot pink, bright orange, small quantities of black and white, neons and dark blues/purples. A Fairy gurl's fave places to shop would be brands like Spank!, Milklim, Nile Perch, Swimmer and lolita shops like Angelic Pretty. Personally I think hand made items would be really nice too - as brand can be very expensive. Especially if you don't live in Japan and need a shopping service.
