Why I love Fairy Kei!

Most of this year I've been drooling over some amazing new fashion styles on Tumblr, including fairy-kei and pastel-goth. Because unfortunately lolita style (with an exception of casual loli) isn't exactly practical for an everyday basis!  I think that fairy-kei could be like a toned down/ poofed-down version of sweet lolita. It's got all the sweet and innocent motifs like candy, cakes and teddy bears... Also you could wear those head-eating hair bows and still call it fairy kei!

I love the cute 80s vibe, and all the amazing, vivid colours they use in designing! The sweet motifs they use on knitted jumpers and T-shirts are just so adorable, and the coloured hair is all good too!

Fairy-kei girls wear lots and lots of badges (remember all those 'I ♥ Spank!' pins that float around all over kawaii Tumblr blogs?) and layering of clothes is also fashionable.

Colours most commonly used are; all kinds of pastels, hot pink, bright orange, small quantities of black and white, neons and dark blues/purples. A Fairy gurl's fave places to shop would be brands like Spank!, Milklim, Nile Perch, Swimmer and lolita shops like Angelic Pretty. Personally I think hand made items would be really nice too - as brand can be very expensive. Especially if you don't live in Japan and need a shopping service.

Fairy Kei Hair Slides and Pastel Goth Bracelet

Ahh sorry for the bad photos. It seems whenever I want to take photos it just so happens to be dark outside!

Anyway, I've been Decoden-ing again! I made some fairy kei-inspired hair slides (and they match my iPhone case too!)  and a Pastel-goth bracelet. I got the cross pendant and the tiny pink transparent beads from Afflecks in Manchester with Jasmine. :3

Pastel Pop Darlings

Here's my new drawing that I finished in about... a day. :D

I sketched the girls very quickly in my sketch book, scanned them in, adjusted the brightness/contrast, cropped, fixed the lineart, added the pixel-y background then coloured them in.
After that I added shadows to the skin and hearts and crosses to their clothes. Most of the colouring was on the same layer.

I'm quite pleased with it as I didn't rush too much, and I looked at real-life references for the clothes and colours. As a result I think I've gotten better at drawing shoes and hands!

This drawing was inspired by many of the street styles of Harajuku, Japan. I really like the school uniforms that Japanese schoolgirls wear. They're so much cuter than the uniform I have to wear to school lol! Fairy kei, pastel-goth and Cult party kei was also inspiring for this drawing. Someday I want to go to Japan to take photos of all the inspiring clothes that the people wear and create there!

Chainsaws! X3

I've discovered recently that I have a little fascination with chainsaws!

(Don't worry, I'm not a psychopath that's gonna kill you... XD)

I blame Grell Sutcliffe for this.... and also the music I've been listening to....
